Menopause Test: Self Testing For Menopause

Menopause is a natural phase that women undergo. It is defined as the cessation of the menstrual cycle. Women experiencing menopause undergo a lot of physiological as well as psychological changes.

Normally, menopause occurs at ages 45 – 55. However, there are those who experience this at the age 40 and below. This is due to some underlying conditions of a woman's ovaries or could be due to some surgical procedures.

But how do you know whether you are already experiencing menopause. The most common way a woman knows this is through the manifestations of symptoms. This includes hot flashes, night sweats, missed menstrual periods, decreased sexual desire, mood changes and even depression.

Aside from the symptoms, there are also menopause tests that women can take to know whether they are indeed experiencing menopause already. This is a must for every woman who is in the ages 40 and above. A menstrual test will help you prepare yourself for the changes that will gradually occur in your body.

Menopause Test

Just like with pregnancy kits, there are also kits available for menopause test. These kits are inexpensive, easy to use and can be done in the comfort of your home. Most of these menopause tests are safe to use since they are approved by the FDA.

Self test kits for menopause test check different hormones. When choosing a certain kind of kit, choose something that will provide you test results that you are interested with. You should also do this several times to make sure that the results are accurate.

Another type of menopause test that a woman can do herself is the FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) test. Since FSH is related to menopause, checking for the levels of FSH in your body can determine whether a woman is indeed in the menstrual cycle phase.

The FSH is the hormone responsible for stimulating egg follicles to be released. However, in the menopausal phase, high levels of FSH are detected but nothing happens. This is the indicator that a woman is indeed undergoing menopause – when FSH levels are high.

A Few Reminders

Self tests such as these are 100% accurate. The hormone levels that the menopause test kits check may just be going on the fritz because of some unknown underlying condition that a woman might have. For example, the FSH level could be going off the roof because of a hormonal disease and not actually an indication of menopause. Being aware of the symptoms, taking self tests and seeing your doctor is the surefire way of getting very accurate results.
